In the rolling hills of Umbria, Italy, three hours north of Rome by train, lies the medieval town of Assisi.
St. Francis, was born here in 1208. He went on to found the Franciscan religious order. St. Claire was also born here in 1194. Assisi, with its two medieval castles, basilicas, and cathedrals and a population of over 26,000, is now a World Heritage Site.
