Lake Bled In The Julian Alps Of Slovenia
The picturesque Lake Bled and its towering castle, located high up in the mountains and forests of the Julian Alps of Slovenia.
This glacial lake, at an elevation of 1558 feet, is 1.3 miles long and 0.85 miles wide with a maximum depth of 100 feet. The lake, which has a 15th century church, is the only island in Slovenia. The town of Bled, population 10,900, sits on the lake. The lake is well known and popular for rowing and will host the World Rowing Championship in 2011.
Bled Castle, one of the most visited attractions in Slovenia, can be seen towering high above the lake. The castle, first constructed over 1000 years ago, is located on a cliff over 400 feet above the water.
